Meet Your Neighborhood Nurse Practitioner

Gracious welcome,

My name is Bernice Fomunung, and I am a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). This means I’m licensed to evaluate, diagnose, and treat a variety of mental health conditions across all ages. My primary role involves managing medications for mental health alongside offering supportive therapy.

I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with my Master’s degree and have been a psychiatric prescriber for over five years. During this time, I’ve had the privilege of working with adolescents and adults in several inpatient hospitals and outpatient mental health clinics. These experiences have allowed me to care for patients dealing with severe substance use disorders, trauma survivors, and veterans. I’ve also worked in private outpatient psychiatric clinics, where I treat conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, insomnia, and much more. I’ve even spent time in a maximum security level one correctional facility, treating inmates with moderate to severe mental health issues.

I firmly believe that my extensive work experience, combined with my personal journey with mental health, uniquely positions me to deeply understand and empathize with my patients. Reaching out for help—whether for yourself or a loved one—can feel daunting, and I admire your courage in taking this important step.

I’m committed to treating each individual holistically because the path to mental wellness can be intricate. It often involves making lifestyle changes, addressing trauma, optimizing physical health, and shifting mindsets. Together, we’ll listen deeply to your pain, struggles, and concerns—both spoken and unspoken. We’ll rely on up-to-date, evidence-based practices and my professional experience to create a tailored treatment plan just for you.

Creating a trauma-informed, healing space where you feel safe and supported is my passion. Trust and rapport are fundamental to your healing journey, and I aim to foster this every step of the way. I’m dedicated to educating my patients about their medications and always welcome your questions because your comfort and understanding are paramount.

When I’m not with my patients, I enjoy reading, writing, praying, traveling, trying new experiences, and spending quality time with my family.

To our hopeful future client, life can once again be beautiful, bright, and fulfilling with the right support. Hope, genuine laughter, focus, peace, and joy can be restored. Take that next step and book your initial appointment with me. It would be an honor to aid you in your journey toward achieving optimal mental wellness.

With grace,
Bernice, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC
